Ski-Fit & Brunch

Some members tell us Ski-Fit & bunch is the club’s best kept secret. Many members don’t wait til the snow flies to have fun outdoors, meet others, and learn new skills and sports. Ski-Fit is for everyone. Use it to start being more active, or to augment your existing fitness program. There is no time to start like today. New members are always welcome!

Ski-Fit & Brunch is a great way to warm up to winter activity. Increase your fitness, meet up with HPSC friends, enjoy a leisurely brunch and get jazzed for the return of snow. It’s a friendly and social program for people of ALL fitness levels. It is fun and helps you get the most from the winter sports you love.

Ski-Fit is a free program for all HPSC members. All you have to do is show up with your running or walking shoes and a water bottle.

What to bring: Running or walking shoes, water, warmer clothes in cooler weather.

If you miss some sessions, that’s fine – you can still attend any of the others.

Here is a rough idea of the morning schedule. We have many members who volunteer to lead activities, so we’re open and flexible. It is a social and fun work out where everyone can participate at their own level. Between 30 and 40 members participate each week.

8:55: meet in the Grenadier parking lot on the north side under the trees. Meet new friends and say hi to your ski-fit buddies.

9:00-9:30 - agility and warm up games (soccer, Frisbee, tab, hacky sac) new member check in

9:30-10:30 - split into smaller groups for cardio fun

runners, run/walkers, caffeinated walkers (a little faster), decaffeinated walkers (a little more relaxed)

Nordic pole walking lesson groups split by skill level, speed or experience. Skill development while we are walking and enjoying the park

10:30 - back to the circle by the parking lot for a variety of activities ( yoga, tai chi, core exercises, hill and bounding games, gate training on feet, or other skiing specific activities, and cool-down stretching .

11:00ish - a well deserved Brunch, or just join in for coffee.

If the rain man is threatening, come a long and we’ll stay adapting all our activities to under the forest canopy. Just bring a hat or gloves if it is cool and a suitable jacket. You may want an extra layer to put on after exercising and during breakfast....let’s face it, if it is dreary, we’ll just head in earlier for hot drinks, brunch, and socializing.

New to SF&B - Free Nordic Pole Walking lesson - Demo poles provided
Experience the new walking craze that is taking Europe by storm. Millions of people have taken up Nordic Pole Walking to improve strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, and cardio fitness while engaging your upper and lower body muscles and protecting hip and knee joints.

Burn up to 46% more calories than walking or jogging. Use 90% of your muscles rather than the 35% people use on bikes or treadmills. Reduce impact to your hips and knees by 30%. Watch the quick video demonstrations below to get an idea of the fun.

All this benefit while having fun, talking with friends in the club and enjoying the autumn colours. Nordic pole walking is especially great for preserving and recovering hips and knees.
