Trip Description:
Gatineau Park is a conservation area which features over 200km of groomed trails for both classic and skating, which wind through stunning scenic forests and valleys. Snowshoers can choose from 45kms of breath taking trails which wind through the park. There are cabins and shelters located throughout the trails which are ideal to stop and have lunch or just take in the beauty of the park.
Winterlude celebrations are taking place throughout Ottawa during our stay and there is no shortage of things to see and do. Our hotel is located right downtown on the Rideau Canal, in the heart of all the activities. The International Ice Sculpting Competition takes place around the corner from our hotel and is absolutely breathtaking to see at night. The National Snow Sculpture Competition takes place on Parliament Hill and worth the short walk up to the hill. Skating on the world’s largest skating rink is highly recommended followed by the honourable tradition of a Beaver Tail and hot chocolate.
Ottawa also has some of the most spectacular museums such as the Aviation Museum, Museum of Nature and the Museum of Civilization. A visit to the National Gallery is a must for any art enthusiast and for the avid shopper Sparks Street Mall and the Rideau Centre will have just about everything you need. The Byward Market is also worth a visit featuring cafes, specialty shops, boutiques, galleries and restaurants.
You may also want to join this trip if you just want to visit Ottawa for the Family Day long weekend and look around. There is a lot to do and see in the capital and you do not have to participate in XC skiing or snowshoeing with the others. You can have a great time sightseeing during the day, perhaps skate on the Rideau, then dine and party with the skiers afterward.
This trip always sells out - book early to avoid disappointment!
